This book is a tribute to my father, Dr. Nestor Oliveri, who was a pioneer of Social Medicine and became known as the compassionate doctor who was an advocate for the poor and a voice for the voiceless. He turned his back on the potential for a life of wealth and luxury, and chose instead to live a simple, humble life among the poor that he served. This is the story of how he came from humble beginnings and remained in humble circumstances until his death, serving the people that could afford no other doctor. This work is not only about Nestor Oliveri, aka Dr. Chino, but is dedicated to his memory and legacy which will hopefully inspire others to live a simple life of service to their fellow human beings. The book was written in Spanish but translated into English so that Nestor’s friends in Elkin, NC, and anyone who speaks English, could read the story of a promising young man who came to Elkin as a foreign exchange student and became a famous and respected physician in his home country of Argentina.
