What’s Happening at the Yadkin County Public Library

Children’s Programs

  • StoryWalks at Yadkin County Park (focus: picture books) and WIC Community Garden (focus: bilingual boardbooks)
  • STEAM & Stories (ages 0-5) has free play with STEM toys and STEM stories. First Thursday of every month. Program starts back on September 3!
  • Preschool Storytime (ages 2-5) includes crafts, snack, stories, and play time! Storytime returns with Play Days on August 20 with Dinosaurs and August 27 with Farm & Grocery.
  • Kaleidoscope Play and Learn, by Smart Start of Yadkin County (ages 0-5) is on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. On September 1, This leaves the park and returns to being inside the library. 
  • Homeschool Meet-Up (all ages). Program returns on Wednesday from 1-3:30 pm on August 26.
  • Playtime Explorers (ages 0-2) is an hour long, unstructured play and social time for babies and caregivers. Enjoy themed toys set at various stations that children are free to roam in and out of, along with music and board books! First meeting is Sept 18 with “Down on the Farm.”
  • Groove and Move (school-age kids) When Yadkin County Schools are out on break, come join us for music & movement in the meeting room! The first event is Sept 17 from 2-3:00PM, with the musical theme “Dino Stomp”. The lights will be dimmed, and the strobe & colored lights turned on.

  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program: offers free tax help to people who generally make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. A checklist of what to bring to your local VITA site can be found here.
