What’s Happening at the Charles H. Stone Memorial Library

The Charles H. Stone Memorial Library will be closed April 21, 2025 for Easter Monday. We will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday April 22. Remember, our digital collections are always available for eBooks, audiobooks, and more on the Hoopla or Libby app! Wishing you a wonderful spring holiday!

The Writers Road Show Tour
is coming back to Northwestern Regional Library in 2025!

Join us as we welcome incredible authors and dive into powerful stories that explore rich themes and unforgettable characters. To get ready, check out these featured books now available at Charles H Stone Memorial Library:

Special & Monthly Events
Spring Festival – Saturday, April 5th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm (on the back lawn). Join us for an Egg Hunt, educational displays with Pilot Mountain State Park, and lawn games for all ages! Bring your family, friends, and best egg-hunting skills for a hoppin’ good time!

Eddisians Youth Book Club – Wednesday, April 16th from 4:30 – 6:30 pm – (tables by adult fiction) – Ready to rock? Join us for the April meeting of the Eddisians Youth Book Club! We’ll dive into “The First Rule of Punk” by Celia Perez and unleash our creativity by making zines (mini magazines) inspired by the book. It’s going to be fun and totally creative!

Preteen Book Club – Thursday, April 17, 4-5 p.m. (Downstairs Community Room). Discover how Louisa May Alcott’s real-life experiences shaped Little Women in “Louisa May’s Battle: How the Civil War Led to Little Women.” Join us for a great discussion, activities, and a look at history through Alcott’s eyes.

Teen Book Club – Thursday, April 24, 4-5 p.m. (Downstairs Community Room)Join us as we explore “A Kid’s Guide to the Bill of Rights” by Katherine Krull! This fun, engaging book breaks down our rights with real-life examples. Enjoy a lively discussion, activities, and a closer look at the freedoms we use every day.

Poetry Workshop with Brett GordonSaturday, April 26th from 2:00 to 3:00 pm – (Downstairs Community Room) – Join Brett Gordon, Poet Laureate of Pilot Mountain, for a creative workshop on finding poetry in everyday moments. Discover how to observe the world through a poetic lens and craft your own verses.

Weekly Events

Preschool Story Time for preschool children and their caregivers! Join us for a gentle time of stories, songs, crafts, friendship and play. Every Tuesday from 10:00 – 11:00 am in the downstairs community room.

  • April Fools – April 1 –Join us for a silly, giggly, and fun-filled April Fools Preschool Storytime! Expect lots of laughter and surprises along the way!
  • Bunnies- April 8 – Hop on over to the library for a bunny-tastic preschool storytime! Join us as we dive into the wonderful world of bunnies and rabbits through fun stories, songs, and activities that will delight your little ones. Come dressed in your favorite bunny ears to make it extra special! 
  • Easter – April 15th – Join us for a fun-filled Easter Storytime featuring adorable bunnies, colorful eggs, and fluffy chicks! We’ll share delightful springtime stories and enjoy a simple craft. Perfect for little ones eager to celebrate the season with stories and creativity. No registration required—just bring your bunny ears and your love for stories!
  • Earth Day – April 22 – Join us for a special Earth Day Preschool Storytime filled with fun, nature-themed stories and a simple craft! We’ll celebrate our amazing planet with tales of trees, animals, and ways little hands can help keep the Earth happy. Let’s read, learn, and grow together! No registration required.
  • Gardening – April 29 – Join us for a fun, garden-themed preschool storytime. We’ll read stories about seeds, flowers, and growing things, then make a cute garden-inspired craft to take home. Perfect for little sprouts. No green thumb required—just bring your imagination! 
The Living Room Stitchers Club – Every Tuesday

10:30 a.m. – Noon. Whether you’re into knitting, crochet, quilting, or cross stitch, bring your project and enjoy good company. Beginners and experts alike are welcome!

Arlo the Library Dog – Tuesdays
3-5 p.m. – Arlo, our favorite therapy dog, loves listening to stories! Bring your child to practice their reading skills with a furry friend.

Chess Club – Wednesdays
4:30 – 7 p.m. – Downstairs Community Room – Do you love a good challenge? Come test your strategy skills at our Chess Club, open to players of all levels. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you’ll find a welcoming space to learn, play, and have fun. Checkmate awaits!

Youth STEAM Programs with Ms. Lori – Thursdays
2:30 – 3:30 p.m.; Downstairs Community Room – Unleash your creativity and curiosity with our Youth STEAM Programs led by the amazing Ms. Lori! Designed for ages 6 and up, these hands-on sessions explore exciting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) concepts through fun, interactive projects. Whether you’re building, designing, or experimenting, there’s always something new to discover.

Community Room
The Warren J. Stone Community Room located on the basement level of the library is provided for the use and benefit of the entire community and is available to rent for parties, showers, weddings, reunions, social occasions, educational classes, meetings and training sessions.
North Carolina Room
The North Carolina Room holds a collection of historical and genealogical information from Pilot Mountain and surrounding areas.

Charles H. Stone Memorial Library Community Room Policy

The Warren J. Stone Community Room located on the basement level of the library is provided for the use and benefit of the entire community and is available to rent for parties, showers, weddings, reunions, other social occasions, educational classes, meetings and training sessions. Sales events that do not benefit the library are now allowed. The rental cost is $110.00 per day, $35.00 of which is refundable if the key is returned promptly and the room is properly cleaned and is undamaged. As with all the public buildings owned by the Town of Pilot Mountain, the following rules apply: no smoking, no alcoholic beverages and no firearms are allowed.

Please note that the library does not provide paper goods, waste can liners and cleaning supplies for private parties. Those renting the facility are expected to provide their own supplies. All persons renting the facility, and their guests, are required to use the resource in a respectful manner and to carefully observe the following checklist:

  • Remove all trash from the kitchen and restrooms. (Waste carts are located on the utility pad, outside the kitchen door.)
  • Replace all trash can liners.
  • Flush toilets and rinse sinks.
  • Remove items from the refrigerator and freezer.
  • Wash, dry and replace in their proper place all used kitchen items.
  • Wash all used tables and chairs (as needed).
  • Lay all used kitchen linens out on counters to dry. (Library staff will launder.)
  • Check the stove and oven to be certain they are off.
  • Remove all decorative items from the room.
  • Pull tape and crepe paper remnants from the walls and ceilings.
  • Sweep and mop the floors. (Brooms and mops are located in the electrical utility closet near the kitchen.)
  • Properly secure the room by locking both the kitchen utility pad door and the room entrance door.
  • Check the window for proper locking.
  • Turn off all lights in the room.
  • Leave stairwell and outside door lights on for security.
  • Promptly return the key to the library staff by the method instructed.
