POSITION: Assistant Branch Manager/Children’s Programming

HOURS: Forty (40) hours per week. Daytime with some evenings and Saturdays required.

SALARY: Annual salary is $32,561 to the end of a successful 6-month orientation period when it will increase to 2.5% to $33,376. Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Medical insurance paid in full by the library. Membership in the NC Retirement System.

NATURE OF JOB:

Programming: Plan, promote, and deliver programs for all ages but primarily children ages 1-11. Includes literacy and STEAM-based activities

Public Services: Computer-based library tasks including materials circulation; reader’s advisory; information retrieval; assistance with computer software; internet use and electronic devices; computer software, scanning/ photocopying/fax services ..

Management: Assist with staff training and leadership (4.5 FTE), reports, collection maintenance and development, materials processing, daily building monitoring. Additional duties as assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Branch Manager.

START DATE: Immediately. Open until filled.

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Required: Associates Degree, 2 years serving the public, 2 years delivering programs in a library/educational setting. Excellent computer skills including internet searches, productivity software (Google Workspace), Microsoft Office, Canva), using social media as a marketing tool, familiarity with mobile electronic devices. 1 year supervisory experience. Or, any combination of training and experience providing the required skills and knowledge. Must be a·team player, have outstanding customer service skills, enjoy working with the public, be good with written detail, careful listener, and organized. Must be able to multitask, lift 30 lbs, and stand for an extended period of time. Valid NC Driver’s license required. Preferred: 4-year bachelor’s degree, experience working in a public library, knowledge of children’s literature.
