Elkin Public Library Endowment

The Elkin Public Library Endowment, established with a bequest from Ola Williams Hendren, seeks to honor the spirit of Lin and Ola Hendren by reflecting the passion, curiosity, and wonder they felt for the natural world and the love they had for the library and local community in which they lived.

The Elkin Public Library Endowment endeavors to allow the annual funds received in interest from the endowment to be used, as stated in Ola Hendren's will, … in the Linville Hendren Nature Section, to purchase books and equipment, and for such other improvements as the Library Board deems to be in the best interest of the Elkin Public Library.   In addition, the endowment will consider expanding the reach of the gift to include programming opportunities to the schools and community as an extension of the Elkin Public Library.

The committee formed to carry out the intent of the Hendren gift will be composed of three current trustees and three members of the community appointed by the trustees.  The committee will place priority on projects that connect to the library or library services.  Proposals for the disbursement of funds may be submitted anytime, but will be acted upon in committee meetings held prior to the Board meetings set by the yearly calendar. Recommendations from the committee will be voted upon by the Elkin Public Library Trustees at their regular meetings.

A description of the Elkin Public Library Endowment and opportunities for proposals will be posted on the Northwestern Regional Library website at the Elkin Public Library link.

Applications will be available at the Elkin Public Library or may be printed from the Elkin Public Library link at the Northwestern Regional Library website.
