Alleghany County Public Library
"Friends"

Volunteer Opportunities

The library welcomes volunteers to become involved with the library. Volunteers operate the Books 'n Friends used bookstore, but must be members of the Friends group. The library also welcomes volunteers for activities such as Summer Reading Program. Youth must be at least 12 years of age to volunteer at the library. Volunteers who are willing to serve as Board members and on committees, such as fund-raising and building committees are appreciated.

Contributions

The Alleghany County Library accepts both book and monetary donations, at the discretion of the librarian.

Monetary donations can be given to honor someone
or as a memorial for a loved one.

Donations may also be made toward the library building fund. Please contact the librarian if you have any questions.

New or used books may be donated to the library and/or Books 'n Friends Bookstore which was opened in March 2003 by the Friends of the Alleghany County Library. Members of the Friends operate the bookstore 28 hours per week, as a fund-raiser for the library.

Friends of the
Alleghany County Public Library

The Friends of the Alleghany County Library was organized in 1979 with the first meeting held on April 5, 1979. This group of interested library supporters organized to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services for the community. Membership is open to all individuals who are interested in supporting the library in various activities. Membership in the Friends group is $10 annually.

The Friends are a major part of library planning and activities. The group was responsible for opening the Books 'n Friends Bookstore in March of 2003, which has been a great fundraiser for the library. This has enabled the Friends to provide funding for many activities and library needs.

The Friends continue to be a major avenue of support and help for the library and truly do make a difference.
